Nik’s Chicks is a FREE ladies only running/triathlon group. It is only a time and place to meet & a program to follow.  I cannot join you on every run/workout.  If you are new to exercising, it is advisable to have a doctor’s OK prior to beginning.  Any information or products represented on this site are for educational purposes only and are not a substitute for any advice given to you by a medical, nutritional or fitness professional. Please sign my waiver (in “About”) and fill out my contact info sheet when you arrive for your first run.  Please park on West Oak Trails Blvd, Nightingale or at Bloomfield Park to avoid congestion, locking beeps and car doors closing around my neighbours’ houses – especially on Saturday mornings! We run Tuesday and Thursday evenings 8pm and Saturday mornings 8am from the corner of Redwing and Blackbird Courts.  Check out Weekly Workout section for specific times and distances.

Quotes of the Week:

Every day I stop halfway through my run, look around and enjoy the surroundings.  I’m reminded of why I do this and why I love it so much.

Anita Oritz

The challenge and the energy running requires may be a selfish one, but it actually motivates me to be stronger in my relationships.

Joan Benoit Samuelson

Hello ladies, here is the latest news from the “nest”!   I think I am over my grumpy spell about walking:) I am still not loving it but now that I have switched to ski pants and a parka, I am much more comfortable.  I appreciate the company of the ladies who have come out to join me and have even enjoyed listening to my audiobooks.  I have been told by a few of my practitioners (my “team” as my husband calls them), that we all need to give our bodies a little breather from time to time when we are very active.  This allows it to recharge it’s batteries so it’s ready to ramp up again.  I will keep telling myself this as I tromp along tonight!

Nike Women’s Only 15km: This inaugural 15km race takes place on June 14th in Toronto.  There is a lottery entry beginning March 9. It’s difficult to find specifics about the race (registration page, fees, course, etc.)  Perhaps there will be updates to this page as the date draws closer! Nike Women’s 15km

Jackets:  The ball is now really rolling!  Met with Jason, the Louis Garneau rep, this week and I am excited about the many options we have for style of jackets and future orders. We can work with their in house graphic artists on the custom design.  We are hoping that many of you decide to buy one as the more units we sell, the deeper the discount! (Shooting for 50 units!!)  I am looking for some sponsorship opportunities as well to help with costs.  The objective is to get the final price for you down to under 100.00.  Consider this an investment piece that you will have for a long time:)  Once I get a “fit kit” arranged, I will host a social night at my place where you can drop in and try on the samples so that you choose the right jacket for yourself based on the style and fit.  Once the final graphic design is achieved, I will send this out in an email so you can make your ultimate decision.  I promise you they will be tastefully cool, not too flashy:) and a Nik’s Chicks original design!!  You know you are gonna want one…  It will be perfect for those of you who have had the original Nik’s Chicks jacket for a long time and are getting bored with it, anyone who will be getting back into running this spring and for any newbies who are embarking on their running dreams!

Aspiring (Ironman) Triathlete?:  If so, read this article to see if you have what it takes! Top-notch Triathletes!

Mercedes 10km:  We have had a few ladies inquire about this one.  The 10km program for this April 26th race will begin this Saturday, February 28th from a 5km base.  Christine G and her husband are already signed up.  The t-shirts are always stellar and you can win a Mercedes car for a year:)  For more info or to register click here Mercedes 10km Oakville

NEW Programs:  I have had a few ladies ask about the Learn to Run Programs and when they will be starting.  With the current colder temps and dark nights, we rarely have ladies who WANT to start programs at this time of year! That being said, new 5km and 10km programs generally begin right after March Break which prep you for May 5 km and 10km races. If you are wanting to do longer distances in May, the time to get your 10km base is now!  Check out the heading “Training Groups/Upcoming Races” to see what’s coming up and who has signed up for races.

Swimming: Just an FYI for anyone who is interested – Jo and I are swimming at QEP pool on Friday mornings at 10:00am.  Remember to pack your goggles, cap, towel, flip flops, shampoo, conditioner, and everything else you need to make a clean getaway!

What to Wear?:  Having a hard time deciding on how many layers? Use this tool to help sort it out. What to Wear
